ABOUT THE UNIVERSITY

Weston Reserve University honors the past while embracing the future.  Weston is an ancient place name in both Scotland and England.  According to researchers in genealogy, it was first borne as a family name by Peter de Weston (ca.1278) in England. Today, Weston Hall in Shropshire, the family seat of the Dukes of Bradford, is held in Trust for the nation. The Weston name graces the New World, as well: Hon. Hilary M. Weston, Lt. Governor General of Ontario, for example.  Reserve refers to the repository of collective knowledge and experience available to students around the world from the community of scholars who constitute the University.  The University views itself as an advocate of universal education and a defender of traditional values, including the exercise of scholarly inquiry and dissemination of knowledge free of excessive bureaucracy and governmental control.
